The National Vaccine Information Center has provided an easy-to-use calculator to let you plug in each type or brand of vaccine you are considering and find out exactly how much mercury you will be exposed to, and how it compares with what the EPA says is a safe level. At this time, it is set up for only the seasonal flu and the H1N1 flu shots, but hopefully it will be expanded to include all the recommended vaccines. It is immediately useful, however, since you can ask your doctor what exact vaccine he proposes to give you, and you can decide if you want it based on the amount of mercury in it. Use unscented candles - white or with natural color. If you see silver-colored fibers in the wick, hold the tip of the wick and rub a piece of paper across it. If it makes a mark like a pencil, then it contains lead.
