Sanitizers that are alcohol-based can emit vapors that are harmful to breathe in, cautions the Food and Drug Administration.

Fortunately, it isn’t hard to make your own version, minus the alcohol.  Rinse out a plastic dispenser and add 3 drops of grapefruit seed extract for every ounce of aloe vera gel.  Grapefruit seed extract (GSE) is an excellent germ-killer, but it’s potent, so be sure that you don’t get any of the undiluted liquid on your skin.  You can find both GSE and aloe vera gel in health food stores and online.

We suggest you make your own hand sanitizer by adding 3 drops of grapefruit seed extract (GSE) to each ounce of aloe vera gel. Many Feingold members use NutriBiotic GSE liquid ; read the instructions and do not get undiluted GSE on the skin.
