A reaction can last from a few hours up to several days. The pattern will vary with the individual and the
substance causing the reaction. A person’s reaction to synthetic coloring may be very different from their reaction to a preservative or to a salicylate, etc.

It is typical that, in the midst of it, the sensitive child or adult will not be aware that they are having a
behavioral reaction; he/she may even strenuously deny it. Later, after the effects have worn off, they may be able to recognize the inappropriate behavior. As they become established on the Diet,
individuals may become more open to other’s observation that they are having a reaction.
